Wow: two more weddings under our belt after this weekend, one more week left in August, not long before our Fall Specials kick in. This summer so far has been a bit of a whirlwind, but that’s ok – our Ocean Delight journey has always been an adventurous one. Even when the time flies, we’re having fun, working hard, meeting great people, and always eternally grateful to be able to call such a gorgeous place home. So, here’s to Monday, here’s to time slowing down just a little bit, and here’s to a great summer season so far!
Make This: Cooks Needed This Summer!
If you follow our blog, you probably know that we’re gearing up for a busy summer. We feel blessed to be able to share this beautiful part of Newfoundland with so many guests, and we’re working hard to ensure that we provide the best experiences possible.
And of course a busy summer means we need lots of great people on board. We’re thrilled with the staff we’ve hired so far – we have a great team in place who are already proving to be worth their weight in gold.
But we need more! We’re specifically looking for cooks and banquet cooks, but also for spa staff and banquet servers, too. We’re about an hour from St. John’s, and we have part time and full time positions available. So if you’re interested, or know someone who would be, please see all our positions here, and please don’t wait to make an application!
Beautiful Day
Think back for a minute to that long, dreary, never-ending winter we someone got though this year. Remember the coldest, wettest, snowiest, sludgiest day, shoveling your car out for hours before making the arduous trek into the office. There – if possible, we just made you appreciate summer a little more, didn’t we? Happy Sunday!
Blooming Sunday
Sunday’s the perfect day to stop and smell the roses, or any of the brightly coloured flowers here at The Doctor’s House! Since we’re in full bloom, we invited our good friend (and good photographer), Shirley George, to come take some photos. The results are stunning – you can see all her beautiful photos here. We hope you’re having a fabulous weekend, and please, take some time to smell whatever flowers you happen to have near!
Reason #4581 Why We Love Newfoundland – the Sunsets!
We’re partial to our views in Whiteway and Green’s Harbour, but if you live anywhere in Newfoundland or have visited, you know what we’re talking about. Maybe our weather isn’t always the greatest, maybe the skies not always the sunniest, but in all my world travels, I’ve never seen sunsets, with all the the illuminescent colours, like what we get here. Even artists have never fully captured the beauty, because they’re beyond picture-perfect. We’re truly blessed!
Summer Hours at the Shag It, plus new Senior Discount!
As everyone recovers from what we hope was a fantastic Canada Day, we have some fun news. Starting this Thursday, we’ll be moving to new Summer Hours at the Shag it. We’ll now be open Thursday through Monday, from 11-7pm. Executive Chef and Backyard-Gardener Extraordinaire Cate Dore has tweaked our fabulous, fresh menu, and, we’re happy to announce that Fridays and Mondays we’ll also be offering a 10% Seniors’ Discount. Delicious food made from scratch, fabulous views and 10% off – who can resist that??

Here’s wishing everyone a happy and safe weekend. Now that it’s summer, we love having our cottages full and lots of guests with whom to share the Wonderful World of Whiteway. And here’s a reminder that the Shag It Cafe will be open today, tomorrow and Sunday from 11-7pm. We have the lovely and increasingly popular Chef Cate Dorr on board – with reviews like she’s getting each weekend, it should be a fun and tasty weekend!
Spring Has Sprung
We’ve had some beautiful days here lately – sunny, warm but not too warm, no wind. We’ve been treated to beautiful sunsets, flowers bursting forth, birds and bees getting busy with their spring cleaning. Perry was right – it is gorgeous out here this time of year.
We’re looking forward to a fun, busy weekend. The Shag It will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11-7pm. We hope to see you out on the patio, enjoying Spring with us!

No matter what the weather does now, at least we can say it’s Spring! And with all the sunshine that’s bound to come our way, we’ve just announced our new Summer Special. Summer Memories
Here is a great picture recently sent to me by Paul Davis, Minister of Child, Youth and Family services and a good friend of mine. He took it when he, his wife Cheryl and special friends came out to The Doctor’s House to celebrate his clean bill of health and victory over cancer.
Paul is a singular human being who has done a lot for individuals and the public at large. He is an important part of the Newfoundland mosaic, and it is our honour to count him a friend and to have welcomed him to our Inn.
This picture certainly reminds us of the warmth of the summer sun. Thankfully, winter is better when we’re cozy, and when Christmas is coming. We’re so excited for Christmas at The Doctor’s House this year (all of The Berry’s family is coming) and for the fun New Year’s Eve we’re starting to plan. It’ll be here before you know it.
