Sunset Sunday: Don’t Adjust Your Screen

Sunset in NewfoundlandDon’t adjust your computer screen – colours like this really do exist in the Wonderful World of Whiteway! We’re blessed – and so are our guests – to be right on the ocean, with front row tickets to the best show in the universe, every night. It never disappoints. And sometimes, like this evening I captured, it’s almost life-changing in all it’s pastel glory. Here’s to Shag Rock and the Setting Sun!

Sunset Sunday: Priceless

Newfoundland suncatchersA picture is worth a thousand words, and a sun-catcher? Priceless. The Berry’s mother makes these beautiful pieces, and I’m grateful that a few have wound up in our home. They’re always pretty, of course, and at sunrise and sunset they make our whole room dance with magical light. It’s truly a sight to see. Happy Sunday!

Reflections

Sunset in NewfoundlandI am a sunset connoisseur, and here in Trinity Bay we have the best sunsets I have ever seen. And I have a secret – sometimes is it not about sun gazing or the incredible afterglows and afterimages.  It is about the reflections and the flow-through.

Like I recently witnessed with this magical sunset and its magnetic afterglow.  Look at how it lights up the orchid and its flowers.  It takes them from beautiful to that higher level of pure radiance.

Sunsets like this are good for the eyes – and good for the soul. And given that our season at The Doctor’s House officially kicks off tomorrow, we need all the relaxing moments we can get – we’re not going to get many over the next few months!

Smooth Sailing

shag rock I wish I had a 3 D camera or the wordsmithing ability to describe last night.  It was truly sun gazing at its best, as I stood on our back deck and looked west. It was the clearest of evenings, no wind for miles.  The golden sun was bright as it sank behind Trinity North, putting the Midas touch across the bay and over the land.  Then, the afterglow.

It was a moment for deep breaths and deeper gratitude.  A moment when you think that you made the right decision so many mountains ago.

I just stood on the deck, with Murphy sitting on my left and Friday on my right. We all stared at the magnificence all around us, knowing we had free, front row seats to the greatest show on earth.

And we were grateful.

Fire and Ice

Fire and IceI’ve seen fire and I’ve seen ice – but what a combo!  The sun was setting, the waves rolling, the ice glistening.  When I saw all three coincident I became an artist (??) and ran down to the water to catch a permanent glimpse.  Here it is – a  moment frozen in time to fire up the imagination (some poetic – what?).  But it was a beautiful end to a wonderful day – hard work day rewarded by a soft and beautiful sunset. Cheers.

Sunset Sunday: Our Back View

Sunset in NewfoundlandYes – this is the view that we share with all 4 of our Whiteway cottages (including The Cranberry, our honeymoon suite). The evenings where we can take the time to sit back, relax and enjoy the view are just magical – especially when the sky lights up like this. Who knew Mother Nature had such bright colours in her palette – and how blessed are we that she shares them with us?

Sunset Sunday: Golden

Sunset in NewfoundlandI love when the bright of the day melts into gold.  And I love peaceful Sundays, with the promise of a good meal and good company and a quiet evening. Hopefully something similar is in store for you today. God bless.

Sunset Sunday: More Sayulita

Sunset in Sayulita mexicoAhhh, there are worse ways to spend a Sunday than this. But, there’s a giveaway that we’re missing home – last night we went to Murphy’s Irish Pub! It’s become a favourite spot of ours. We like to go with friends and talk about Newfoundland. We’ve met a few Newfoundlanders, and lots of Canadians. It’s always nice to be reminded of home!

Sayulita Sunset

Sunset in MexicoYes, we are still in Mexico! We’re here for a few weeks, so it’s a bit of a working trip – each day finds the The Berry and I putting in a few laptop hours each. But thankfully, we get to enjoy sunsets by the pool. Not too shabby!
