Sunset Sunday: A Wake at Last

Boating and the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean in Newfoundland, Canada

I’ve always dreamed of having a boat and feel so blessed to have one now. Our boat honors that dream – truly, I am thrilled to have a wake at last. Especially when I can enjoy peaceful evenings with The lovely Berry on the ocean, watching the setting sun – my favourite!

Sunset Sunday: Joe’s View

Sunsetting over the Atlantic Ocean in Newfoundland

This picture looks nothing less than miraculous, doesn’t it? Joe got it from his back window, and I love the feelings it evokes. Truly beautiful views here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway. Enjoy your Sunday!

Sunset Sunday: Have a Seat

Seats at our newfoundland cottage rentals

Did two seats ever look more inviting? It’s your own private showing of the greatest show on earth. Perfect for romance, or for sitting quietly and contemplating the universe. Happy Sunday, everyone!

Sunset Sunday: Happy Father’s Day

Sunset in rural Newfoundland cottages

Thanks to Joe Friday for this great picture (and for all the other amazing things he does – he knows how grateful we are). Today I’m wishing all the fathers out there are great Father’s Day. If your children are even just half as amazing as my three beautiful daughters, then I know that you are truly blessed!

Sunset Sunday: Joe’s View

View of the Sunset in Whiteway, Newfoundland

Where would I be without Joe Friday? Well for one, I wouldn’t have this awesome shot of the sun setting over Shag Rock! We’re all busy revving up for the summer season, and it’s moments like this, in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, that make it all worth it.

Sunset Sunday: New Horizons

Sunset over the Atlantic Ocean in Newfoundland

Around this time last year, we were going crazy trying to get our heads around the idea of running our newly acquired cottages. Now we’re going crazy getting ready to open our newly acquired Inn and Spa and soon-to-be constructed cafe and gift shop. Seems like a mad summer ahead of us, but I know if I can squeeze in a few good sunsets like this one (not hard in the Wonderful World of Whiteway), I’ll be ok.

Sunset Sunday: Year Winding Down

Thanks to Joe Friday for this beautiful picture of the sun setting over Shag Rock – he really has a great eye for photography and you’ll see lots of his work throughout the site. But more importantly, as I’m reflecting on this ending year, thanks to Joe for all his hard work, and for coming out here to share this life with us. And thanks to Laurelyn for her dream that led us out here, for her relentless efforts to keep us going. Thanks to our fabulous guests who make it all worth it, who write us great reviews on TripAdvisor and sometimes even start to feel like family. Thanks to Alf, Hilda, Clifford, Shirley, Lisa, Albert, Renee and all the other wonderful people who have welcomed us into this new community with open arms and given us more than one leg-up along the way.  Thanks to Murphy for lifting our spirits every day. Thanks to my daughters, who are my inspiration and my sounding boards. And thanks to everyone who reads this blog, for when you comment here and on Facebook, and if you voted for me for the Canadian Blog Award. Looking out on Shag Rock each night with all these blessings, how can I be anything but grateful?

Sunset Sunday: My Church

I told you watching the sunset is my version of church – and I even have the stained glass – ain’t it beautiful? Glorious sunsets here bring Doreen’s (The Berry’s mother) beautiful gifts to life. They remind me of the days I went to an actual church ( I was Altar Boy of the Year for 5 years in Torbay) when the sun would pour in through the stained glass windows and set my imagination to flight.

Thanks Doreen for the beautiful panes – they are gorgeous and we notice them every day. It is hard to believe so much pane can bring so much joy.

Rest on the Seventh Day

Sunset Sunday was created to give us a day of rest, and boy do we need it! Between some significant DIY work in one of our St. John’s locations, and – more obviously – getting the new website operational (!!!!!!!), plus some extra work for The Berry and an awesome party last night, we are pooped! If you’re reading this, it means our new site is working on your servers, which is awesome. We’re waiting until tomorrow to officially ‘launch’ – to make sure it’s completely up and running without any hitches. In the meantime, enjoy the sunsets, enjoy each other, and stay tuned for an upcoming contest to celebrate our new duds!
