Soggy and Wonderful

The Doctor'shouseWhat a weekend! We had a great Thanksgiving, and many happy guests. This picture was taken on a soggy Sunday with a malfunctioning  camera and only allow a glimpse of the wonder of nature surrounding this piece of heaven.  Makes me wish w I had a magic camera or the words to truly capture the beauty of this place!

We’ve been overwhelmed – in a good way! – with the number of guests taking advantage of our Date Night to Remember. It’s a special package at The Doctor’s House, good through November, that features dinner from our fabulous chef and hot breakfast, too. This Autumn is proving a great time to rekindle romance, and we’ve been only too happy to help in that department!

Where the Road Leads

Road at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaAs we wind down our second summer season at The Doctor’s House, we’re reflecting on the long journey that brought us here, and on the journey we’re planning for the future. It’s been a blessing getting to share this beautiful piece of our island with so many great people – including so many beautiful brides and grooms embarking on fantastical journeys of their own. We’re excited for them, and we’ve excited for where our own path may lead. Thanks to our neighbour Paul Seymour for sharing this lovely photo, which clearly has put us in a philosophical frame of mind!

Taste of Place

Corporate Event at our Newfoundland SpaWe were thrilled this week to help host what turned out to be a fantastic seminar about Food Tourism. Presented by the Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland, Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism and ACOA, it was led by the passionate and knowledgeable Rebecca LeHeup. She spoke to the connection between culture, agriculture, food, arts and tourism, and we had a great showing. Topped off with a meal from our own passionate and knowledgeable Chris Chafe (the veritable King of Cod!), we hope our 70 guests enjoyed themselves and learned something in the process! Like Old Friends

Beautiful day around the bay in NewfoundlandBig thanks to the lovely Lynn Elmhirst for sharing this lovely photo of pony-feeding-time at The Doctor’s House on Twitter. Lynn is a travel TV producer , whose many credits include MSN Travel (you might remember that MSN Travel recently named The Doctor’s House one of the top-ten seaside resorts in Canada). So we were excited when she and her friend, Karen Sealy, the equally accomplished interior designer and on-air personality for Cityline and HGTV, paid us a visit last week.

The only thing more impressive than the list of credits for these women was their openness and sense of adventure. Jerry loved showing them all the lovely features of The Doctor’s House, including, as you can see, a visit to our animal sanctuary. We know they enjoyed Dining at The Doctor’s House with Chris Chafe, too.

Jerry’s favourite part, though, was sharing a lovely breakfast before beginning their morning together. He said it was like talking to old friends, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We’re so happy that these wonderful women included us on their trip to Newfoundland, and wish them well on their journey!

New Fall Specials – at Ocean Delight, and The Doctor’s House!

firepit at our newfoundland cottage rentalsMaybe it’s just us, but when we think about Fall, about the cooler nights that ask for fires and cuddling, the long walks through the fallen leaves, the hot chocolate and warm cider …. it makes us think about romance! And so The Berry came up with some great specials, both at Ocean Delight and at The Doctor’s House, for couples to enjoy a night or two away, kindling the fire and rekindling the love! Sunset Sunday: Enjoying the Long Weekend!

Summer’s Last Hurrah

Since this is the last long weekend of the summer, we know it will soon be time to say bye-for-now to our beautiful gardens at The Doctor’s House. They’re been a highlight this season, as we’ve lived here and gotten acquainted with this beautiful property. Thankfully, we’ve got lots of walking trails, lots of trees, and lots of beauty coming as we get into fall. But for now, here’s one last celebration of our beautiful flowers! Thanks, Bev!

Photo of our Newfoundland Inn taken by a guestWe’re people-people, so one of the most rewarding elements of working at our cottages and at The Doctor’s House is the chance to meet our guests, getting to know them and their stories. It truly never gets old, and we’ve actually made some great relationships these past few years Thanks to a recent guest, Bev, for these lovely photos. Here’s a copy of the email she sent us, too – we’re not experts yet, but we’re working really hard to make guests our happy, and love it when we succeed.  Thanks again to Bev for the pretty pictures and kind words:

“Hi Jerry!

Made it home to Ontario finally.  Just wanted to tell you how wonderful it was to have a couple of days at The Doctor’s House.  Everything was beautiful and the people were just the best!  Hang on to Heather, Chris, Ruby and the rest of the staff!

Here are a few pics from our visit.  Jerry and I have had fun telling the story of your dog and (whose?) underpants.

I know you will make this place a destination must!  It already is and it’s not even close to your vision.  As I told you, I can see that you have the passion, drive and will to make your dream come true!  I will check on the website from time to time to see the magic unfold.  Wishing you good luck for your weddings in August!!

A Room with a View

Room at The Doctor's House A guest recently took this picture from her room at The Doctor’s House, and we’re more than happy to share. Living in Newfoundland, of course the ocean has never been far away. But since The Berry and I moved first to the Wonderful World of Whiteway and now this summer to nearby Green’s Harbour, it’s been so fun and mesmerizing to have the ocean truly in our backyard. It’s a blessing, and one that we are know our neighbours are grateful for, too. And, clearly, our guests too!
