Big Barn Update

Construction project for wedding venue in NewfoundlandWe’re offering weddings at The Doctor’s House in July 2014, and we have some construction projects to finish before then. So we’re using the blog to keep our brides and couples updated about our progress. Here’s the Big Barn. It was actually too cold to do too much work last week (thankfully, we’re still on schedule). So our team just finished the lower extension last week, and will get busy this week if it warms up!

If you’d like to see about the wedding services we offer, please see here. And stay tuned to the blog, as we’ll be announcing the winners of our Spa and Stay packages that we drew after our two recent Bridal Shows.

Good Neighbours

Our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Since beginning our tourism journey with Ocean Delight Cottages a few years ago, we haven’t been able to stop raving about what we’ve dubbed the Wonderful World of Whiteway, not just for its physical beauty, but more for the warm, giving, funny and talented people we’ve met here. Now, The Doctor’s House is only a five minute drive from the cottages, but it’s in neighbouring town of Green’s Harbour. Since our new neighbours are equally fabulous, we’re going to come up with a new name … I’m not sure if ‘Great Green’s Harbour’ has the same ring?

Regardless, these gorgeous photos come to us from neighbour Paul Seymour, who reached out to us on our Facebook page to see if we’d want these beautiful shots. To which, of course, our answer was, yes! We know The Doctor’s House provides lots of photo ops, and we love when guests – and friends and neighbours! – share their beautiful pictures. Want a Fire?

We really mean it when we say The Doctor’s House is the perfect winter getaway – not too far from the city, we’re a warm and romantic refuge from the dreary season we’ve been having. And of course, there’s one key ingredient for a winter getaway – and that’s a roaring fire to cuddle up before and watch. We’ve got one in our dining room, and, as you can see, there’s no shortage of firewood. We’ll keep you warm! Our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Hospitality Conference

Wooden Boat Museum Hospitality NL Conference in GanderWe’re busy and loving it in Gander now, at Hospitality NL’s Annual Conference and Trade Show. With 375 delegates from 150 different companies and more than 40 exhibitors, there’s lots to see and do! We’ve learned so much about the tourism industry since we started a few years ago, and we’re only happy to learn more. And that learning is extra-fun when Alan Doyle is the Keynote Speaker – he did a great job, like you’d expect!Alan Doyle gives a keynote address at a hosptitality conference in NLWooden Boat MuseumOf course, you know we love the Wooden Boat Museum and the Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland!

Thanks for Sharing!

Screen shot of blog about our newfoundland cottagesHere’s a fun blog post for us. Instead of tooting our own horn (as usual!), we’re sharing another blog post about our cottages, this time written by Scott Fry, who writes at Real Man Travels. He was in Newfoundland last summer, and we’re happy to have been a stop on his journey. For anyone planning a trip to the island, Scott’s account offers some useful tips and ideas. He also calls our cottages “highly recommended,” so there’s some more great advice! Read the whole post here.

Thanks to Scott for choosing us and for his kind words and reviews. And to see more reviews of Ocean Delight, please check out our TripAdvisor page – we’re very proud of it!

Shag Rock, Snowy

Shag Rock in Atlantic Ocean as viewed from our Newfoundland cottage rentalsA few days ago we blogged about the icy waves here, we’ve had some nasty weather, and seems like the entire continent is having a wacky winter. Certainly we’ll all be happy when Spring rolls around. But here’s a snowy shot of Shag Rock to show why we love the Wonderful World of Whiteway, through rain, shine, sleet and snow! Please remember that there’s still a month left of our popular Stay In and Stay Warm package (great if you need a romantic respite from this winter!), and our Valentine’s Special at The Doctor’s House (which comes with a gourmet 3-course dinner, plus some more add-ons), is still available this weekend. Happy Friday, everyone!

Ultimate Wedding Show

Bridal Show in St. John's, NewfoundlandThis past weekend, our new Events Manager, Dana, and I had a fantastic time at the Ultimate Wedding Show at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s. ‘Utlimate’ was definitely the right word for it! We were there, of course, to spread the word about weddings at The Doctor’s House, which we’ll be hosting starting this summer. We had a fun, busy day – the wedding industry, like the tourism one was to us two years ago, is a new one for us to explore, and we’ve been loving it. So much enthusiasm, and so many great companies providing great services in the region. We’re happy to join the community, and can’t wait for our weddings to start this year!

And if you’re engaged or soon-to-be, and wondering if The Doctor’s House might be right for you, please sign up for our mailing list – we’ll use it to keep you posted about our weddings and plans for the coming year.
