The Girls are Back in Town!

Family at our ocean front cottagesThese have been a few happy days for us, as Jerry’s oldest daughter, Adrienne, has been back in town – just 3 and a half years after her last trip home! We’re sure many Newfoundlanders can relate to having kids live away, and therefore understand how excited we are to have her back!

We’re doubly blessed this trip, as she’s brought her best friend (and fourth daughter to Jerry), Katherine, with her. This makes Katherine’s 2nd trip to the island, so she’s an honourary Newfoundlander for sure. Katherine brought the rest of her family, too, so there’s been a big, fun crowd to show around. They even got screeched in at the Shag It.

We’re so used to life out here that it’s refreshing to see everything through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time. We’re so happy that Adrienne and her good friends joined us, and so happy they had a great time. Introducing the Cranberry – Our New Honeymoon Cottage!

New cottage at our ocean front cottage rental propertyWe are SO excited to introduce The Cranberry, our brand new ‘honeymoon’ cottage. An A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty, The Cranberry is a culmination of a lot (and a lot and a lot) of hard work, and offers that extra ‘something’ to our guests looking to enhance their journey to the ocean’s edge. Many of our marrying couples have booked it for after their weddings at The Doctor’s House, and we know that many couples and families will enjoy the deluxe accommodations and view.

For an ‘official’ breakdown: this luxury cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including one large master suite on the second floor overlooking the ocean. It also has fully equipped eat-in kitchen, a 2-person soaker tub, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, barbecue, fire pit, and views of Shag Rock and stunning sunsets that will blow you away (all of our cottages have those last few, of course!).

Why, Thank You!

our newfoundland resort inn and spa designed for weddingsA BIG thanks go out to Janice Nieder, who wrote this very compelling article full of tips for your next trip to Newfoundland. Janice is an intrepid traveller (don’t believe us? check out her website, and see if you can find a country she hasn’t been too!), and she recently paid us a visit. She’s compiled a list of everything she learned on her trip to our beautiful island, and wouldn’t you know – she loved The Doctor’s House!  She compares us to “finding a cherry in the box of chocolates,” and she certainly enjoyed visiting our four-leggeds, exploring our grounds, indulging in our spa and eating our food!

Clearly we’re a little biased, but with or without the personal accolades, Top 10 Tips for Visiting Newfoundland is a must-read for anyone planning their trip out east.

And another BIG thanks to Shirley George, who recently took some beautiful photos of The Doctor’s House, like the one pictured above. If anyone has ever come close to capturing the beauty of this place, she has!

Sunset Sunday – Thanks, Cate

An Ontarian, clearly she is enchanted by our Newfoundland sunsets as much as we are – please follow us on Facebook to see more of her shots.

But of course, bigger thanks are in order for all the hard work she puts into the Shag It – it’s been paying off and then some. Her fresh salads are a hit – as is the rest of her ‘real food’ menu. We’re now open Thursday through Monday, with a Senior’s Discount of 10% Fridays and Mondays, so we know she’s working hard. Since we’re new to the restaurant business, we feel truly blessed to have such experienced hands in the kitchen!

Summer Hours at the Shag It, plus new Senior Discount!

Starting this Thursday, we’ll be moving to new Summer Hours at the Shag it. We’ll now be open Thursday through Monday, from 11-7pm. Executive Chef and Backyard-Gardener Extraordinaire Cate Dore has tweaked our fabulous, fresh menu, and, we’re happy to announce that Fridays and Mondays we’ll also be offering a 10% Seniors’ Discount. Delicious food made from scratch, fabulous views and 10% off – who can resist that??

Shag It Reviews (Again)

Reviews for our new Newfoundland cafeMaybe we’ve been waxing poetic too much lately about the Shag It, but we have been thrilled this year with the wonderful work Cate is doing, both in running and managing our cafe, and in creating really delicious, really fresh and fun food.
