Shag It – We’re Growing Our Own!

Garden at our Newfoundland cafe in Whiteway, near WhitbourneHere’s a photo taken by the lovely Cate Dore, who runs and cooks all our lovely meals at the lovely Shag It. This is the budding garden she is growing, full of fresh greens to use in her creations. It really is a ‘living’ salad when it was growing just minutes before being (lovingly) thrown in the bowl! Just a reminder that it’s Friday, and Friday means one thing here at Ocean Delight – time to chow down at the Shag It. Hope to see you – today, tomorrow, or Sunday!

Don’t Make Us Blush!

Ocean front resort in NewfoundlandWe’ve been so busy getting ready for wedding season and just trying to offer the best possible customer service and experiences possible to our guests, that we often go to bed too exhausted to think of little else besides all our plans for the next day. We’re working on slowing down, but we don’t always take the time to step back and appreciate all that we’ve currently accomplished. That’s why it was a thrill to learn that MSN Travel included The Doctor’s House on their list of the top seaside resorts in Canada. It’s a small list, and we’re in stellar company, and we’re humbled and honored to have already made it to their radar. And we’re doing our best to live up to the accolades!

And big thanks again to guests Stephen and Kayla, who shared some of their beautiful photos (like the one you see above), on a recent stay with us. As you can see, we’re really seaside!

Our Ponies’ Debut!

Newfoundland ponyWe love our ponies and so do our guests, so it was only a matter of time before they got a little online-love! Thanks to Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism for their recent blog featuring all the wonderful things to do on the Western shore of Conception Bay. And thanks to blogger, Dominique Chiasson, for staying with us, writing such a nice review of The Doctor’s House, and including our girls, Bridie and Shamrock in it. They’re our rescued Newfoundland ponies, and we’re happy to get the word out about how special they are!

And thanks again to recent guests Stephen and Kayla for the beautiful photo of Bridie.

Great Whiteway Neighbours

RV Park near our oceanfront cottage rentalsWith summer upon us and lots of travelers exploring the Baccalieu Trail, seems like a great time to introduce our Whiteway neighbours, the ShagView RV Park. Just like us, they’re right on the ocean, with front row tickets to viewing Shag Rock. They offer all the services you’d expect in an RV park, plus firepits, access to the beach, free WiFi and, again, that view! With 9 lots, we’re happy to direct RV’ers here anytime, with nightly, weekly, monthly and seasonal rates. Find them on Facebook, or just ask Jerry or The Berry to point the way!

Beauty is a Beauty

Newfoundland ponyThere’s lots to do to get The Doctor’s House for our first weddings in July, but this might have been the most fun. We’ve planned on having Beauty give carriage rides to our couples – but we had to be sure she was up to the job. So we had local expert Dave Knight come out to see if she could perform the task. She passed her test with flying colours, and now we can’t wait for this beauty of a Beauty to help create magical weddings. We think our horse drawn carriages will be quite romantic!

Coming Soon: A New and Improved Cranberry!

Our ocean front Newfoundland cottage rentalsWe’ve been blogging so much about the construction projects to get The Doctor’s House ready for our first wedding season that we’ve been remiss about another fun project taking place right here at the cottages. Every newly-wed couple needs a newly-wed retreat, right? So we’ve been turning the Cranberry into a two story honeymoon suite, complete with hot tub, fireplace and, of course, that Ocean Delight, ocean-front view. It’s been a lot of work, but we think it’ll be worth it. And it’s almost finished!

Putting Your Feet Up!

Relaxing at our Ocean Front Cottage rentalsThere is nothing like putting your feet up at the end of a long day, especially when you can enjoy the sun setting on Hopeall Bay. Here we are enjoying another amazing sunset with the ponies in the foreground, trees in front of that and the Atlantic in front of that. We hope you’re enjoying weekend, and that you’ve found a moment to relax and enjoy all that surrounds us – we’re truly blessed to live in this beautiful province.Relaxing at our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Happy Friday!

Deck chairs at our Newfoundland cafeHere’s wishing everyone a happy and safe weekend. Now that it’s summer, we love having our cottages full and lots of guests with whom to share the Wonderful World of Whiteway. And here’s a reminder that the Shag It Cafe will be open today, tomorrow and Sunday from 11-7pm. We have the lovely and increasingly popular Chef Cate Dorr on board – with reviews like she’s getting each weekend, it should be a fun and tasty weekend!Comment Board at our Newfoundland cafe at our ocean front cottage rentals

A Room with a View

View from our Newfoundland cottage rentalsRecently, because of a conference and full house at The Doctor’s House, Laurelyn and I were ‘forced’ to spend a night at The Puffin. It was the best exile you could hope for! With some wine, some marshmallows for roasting, and lots of coffee on hand for the morning, we absolutely loved the break in this little cabin by the sea. Especially with some ice bergs in the harbour.  If only we could exiled more often!

Goat Park!

Goat at our Newfoundland cottagesPerry, our Groundskeeper at The Doctor’s House, came up with a great idea to build a Goat Park for Rosie and Eweness.  Rosie is playful and energetic, but we can’t let her roam because she tries to head off-property, and she could also hurt herself on some of our vegetation.

So we’ve setup this big rock to start the park, right across from the duck pond.  We’re going to fence it in and add lots for them to jump up on and over. Rosie and Eweness are about to be the luckiest bovines around!Goat at our Newfoundland resort inn and spa
