Pink Skies and Smooth Sailing

Sun setting over Shag RockI took this picture on a beautifully calm evening last week. I don’t think any words – or any picture, for that matter – do justice describing the Wonderful World of Whiteway, our wonderful setting suns. The Berry is still in Ontario, and I’m still holding down the fort. We have lots on the go, but just as much to be thankful for. Happy Sunday!

Check the Traps

Fishing Season begins in NewfoundlandFishing season has begun, and we couldn’t be more excited. All the fresh fish – we know it’s why so many tourists come to visit, and can you blame them?

It’s shaping up to be a good weekend. We’re getting busier as we inch into the summer season, and we like busier! The Savour Food and Wine Show went great yesterday, The Berry reports she’s having a great time on vacation, and we’ve got some fun specials on the go, including an Easter brunch coming up soon at The Doctor’s House. We hope things are lining up just as nicely for your weekend, too!

Dana On the Edge

At a sustainable tourism conference in NewfoundlandYou may have heard me mention Dana from time. She’s our new Events Manager at The Doctor’s House, she’s doing a fabulous job, and she’s worth her weight in gold – we’re really happy to have her on board. We were also happy to send her to the Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism‘s Edge of the Wedge Course last weekend. Here’s Dana and some new friends learning to snowshoe in Gros Morne.

If you have a REALLY good memory, you’ll remember that I took this fantastic course two years ago, when we had just begun our Ocean Delight journey. I learned tons – and that’s why we knew it would be a great experience for Dana. The course centers on how tourism operators can use their local community to create an experience that is rewarding and enriching for both tourists and locals alike. This has been a key guiding principal for how we think we about what we do out here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, and we highly recommend it for all our colleagues.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Bon Voyage Berry!

Goldren retrievers relax wtih the owner of our ocean front cottage rentals in NewfoundlandThe Berry works so hard, so it’s hard to be selfish – she deserves a trip to Ontario to visit her family. But who will we snuggle with on lazy Sunday afternoons? Or any day for that matter? We’ll be quite sad without her these next few weeks, we’re sure, but we wish her a fabulous vacation filled with lots of love and relaxation. And we’ll be waiting with open paws when she gets back!

Last Sleigh Ride of the Season

Sleigh Ride in rural NewfoundlandThere are few things in the world more delightful than Clifford out with his Newfoundland Pony, Annie. His wife Shirley sent us these shots from last week, from what they believe will be the last sleigh ride of the season. She reports that the paths have broken down in the woods, and the sun is gaining its power, so it’s time to put the wintertime fun away. But we’re sure these rides were a bright spot in an otherwise dark season! And if you’d like to see this sleigh-ride live, then check our this video!

Thanks, Zane!

Shag Rock in Whiteway NewfoundlandWe love when former guests and travelers share their photos of our Wonderful World of Whiteway. And since Sunday is Shag Rock day on the blog, we’re happy to share these lovely shots from Zane’s Photographical Journey, who reach out to share some photos he took last summer. Spring Specials at The Doctor’s House

Areial shot of the doctor's house, our newfoundland resort inn and spaA few days ago we wrote about our Spring Specials at the cottages, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t also point out that our sister property, The Doctor’s House, has some tempting offers, too. We’ll be open there for Easter and Mother’s Day, offering a fabulous brunch prepared by our in-house chef. We also have options to add a second night for $99, or two 60-minute Aveda spa treatments for $129. That, plus a relaxing Girls’ Retreat weekend, are already proving to be quite popular – so don’t wait too long to make a reservation! For all our specials, please see here.

Mud Dogs

Dogs playing in rural Newfoundland near our cottage rentalsFriday and Murphy may seem like perfect gentlemen, but even their paws (and more) get muddy when they’re out playing in of the many watering holes around the cottages. But they’re so happy when the weather cooperates and we can take them out for a dip, that it’s worth the clean up! Thankfully, we welcome pets at the cottages for a small fee, so lots of dogs come stay with us, and our boys get to make new, fast friends. It’s always fun to chase old sticks with new friends.
