First Proposal at The Doctor’s House

Newfoundland couple gets engaged at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaWe’ve had some proposals at Ocean Delight, but this was long weekend was extra special as we helped pull off the first proposal at The Doctor’s House. We’ll be having lots of weddings here, so it only makes sense to start the journey here, too!

Bradley proposed to Lisa on the deck of the Limonene Room on this sunny Saturday afternoon, and she said yes!  Our staff, Rosemary, Heather and Jessica, decorated the room and the deck while they were having spa treatments – it was a real surprise for Lisa, and the girls did a fantastic job.

We’re so happy to have helped this lovely couple, and we’re wishing them more than all the best. Thanks, Bradley and Lisa, for sharing your special day with us! Beautiful Wedding Photos at The Doctor’s House

Wedding at the doctor's house in newfoundlandWe haven’t hosted any weddings at The Doctor’s House yet – that’s coming up this summer. But last year a few couples came to take their wedding photos with us – it was learning experience for us, and they got to take some gorgeous shots.

Thank you to Krista Cooper, who recently shared these lovely photos taken last summer. Her sister-in-law Janice married Ace Steward last July. These beautiful images were taken by Sally Ledrew and Judi Stone, and while with such a gorgeous couple it would be hard to have anything less than stunning photos, we love how these capture the essence of The Doctor’s House, and how The Doctor’s House adds to their charm. Find more pictures of the happy couple on our Facebook site, and stay tuned, as we hope to share lots more happy wedding photos with you soon!

Congrats to our Wedding Show Winners

Welcome to the Doctor's HouseIn preparation for our upcoming first wedding season at The Doctor’s House, we’ve been getting to know future brides and grooms at some local wedding shows – and having lots of fun doing it. We’ve been drawing for a Spa and Stay Package – meaning, after each show, one lucky winner receives a a free one-night stay with complimentary bottle of wine, plus breakfast for two and two Aveda spa services (this package is available to all guests who request it – check it out!).

Our recent lucky winners were Erica MacDonald, below (thanks, Erica, for the photo!), and Carly Morgan. We hope they enjoy their free stay with us as much as we enjoyed the Devotion Bridal Wedding Show and the Ultimate Bridal Show!Guests at our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Devotions Wedding Show a Fun Success

Our Wedding Booth in St. John'sThanks to our Events Manager, Dana, for helping us pull off another great booth at the equally great Devotion Wedding Show. We’ll be hosting weddings and receptions at The Doctor’s House starting this July – and we’re already excited by the positive feedback, by learning the industry, and by meeting all the happy couples who are considering us. It’s been fun! If you’d like to learn more about our facilities and wedding offerings, please see hereOur booth at a st. john's wedding convention

We also do draws at these conventions for a Spa and Stay Package, complete with couples’ massage and a stay in our Honeymoon Suite. We’re currently contacting yesterday’s winner. So make sure to stop by our booth, and to check out our Specials and Packages, too!

Construction on Wedding Banquet Hall Begins at The Doctor’s House!

Construction project in rural Newfoundland

We’re working hard to turn The Doctor’s House a world-class wedding destination. One of our steps is converting our big barn into a banquet hall that seats 200 people. We started work last week with Point Contracting, the local contractor who also built our house and cottages.

For all the grief that the winter weather has brought us, this current thaw allows us to get a foundation in early. This is a big move to help keep us on schedule.

So here are the ‘before’ shots of the Big Barn Project.  We’ll use this blog to keep all our booked wedding couples booked appraised of our progress.

And don’t worry – since this barn was currently empty, we’re not putting out any of our animals. They’re still snug-as-a-bug in their current home!Construction project in rural NewfoundlandConstruction project in rural newfoundlandConstruction Project in Newfoundland

Fun Event for Brides this Weekend!

Our wedding booth for our Newfoundland inn and spaIf you follow us on the blog or on Facebook, then you know that we’re excited to be offering The Doctor’s House as a premier (and Newfoundland’s newest, I might add) wedding destination, starting Summer 2014. So it’s been fun getting involved in this new section of the industry, by, for example, attending the Devotion Wedding Show in St. John’s a few weeks ago.

That’s why we’re thrilled to be participating in the upcoming grand opening for The Ivory Suite in Paradise tomorrow, November 9. The Ivory Suite is a new bridal store with a wide selection of hand-picked, timeless, beautiful and current bridal gowns and a shopping experience to match. It’s like a bridal retreat, and it’s stunning (not that I know much about wedding gowns, but The Berry is impressed!).

So tomorrow, we’re happy to be helping with the grand opening, as we welcome this great, new store to the area – it’s going to be a great resource for brides, no doubt. Stop by the store tomorrow to enjoy light refreshments, a chat with yours truly, and some great giveaways, including gifts from Newfoundland Chocolate and the Head Room. And not to give away any secrets, but The Doctor’s House is providing the grand prize!

The Ivory Suite is open tomorrow from 11-6. I hope you’ll stop by and enter your name in the draw. And please spread the word to any happy brides you might know!

Weddings at The Doctor’s House

Our booth at the wedding show for our Newfoundland inn and spaWe had a a terrific time yesterday manning a booth at our first every Devotion Wedding Show in downtown St. John’s. The Berry has been working hard to put together some wedding packages for The Doctor’s House, and we welcomed the opportunity to showcase our beautiful inn and spa, which we both know will make for truly stunning and special occasions. We have a few weddings booked already, and we’ll be looking forward to them.

And after all, the Baccalieu Trail is meant for lovers, what with names like Cupids, Heart’s Content, Heart’s Delight, and Heart’s Desire. And given its beauty and proximity to St. Jonn’s, we think the Trail, and The Doctor’s House, both are a natural choice for wedding destination. As always, if you’d like to hear more about our wedding packages or any other questions related to The Doctor’s House, please email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com. And, here’s to love and marriage!

Honeymooners’ Delight

You may remember Shauna and Geoff, a young couple from Kingston, who were our first guests to be screeched in by Joe Friday. They also have another distinction – our first honeymooners! Here they are happily displaying a Clifford George original – given at a discount for the occasion – in front of their cabin. They loved their stay – thanks in part to donated bikes from Whiteway’s own Lisa Day, and tea and a boat tour from Clifford and Shirley. Fresh fish helped, too!

If you watch our Youtube video, Geoff says he thinks “Ocean Delight chose us.”  That’s exactly how we felt when The Berry and I decided to buy these cottages. We’re thrilled that Geoff and Shauna enjoyed our place as much as we do (and wish them all the best!), and we hope we’ll have lots more happy, honeymooning couples to share it with in the future.
