The harbinger of colour and tone gave rise to the storm in forecast. And if ever there were a blog-worthy moment, this is it!

We get it. With that lingering brown snow, it’s hard to get a case of Spring Fever this year. But trust us – this view of Shag Rock is beautiful and relaxing any time of year. With The Doctor’s House opening this Friday (this Friday!) and our current Spring Specials, we’re doing our level best to pull our fellow Newfoundlanders out of this long-winter-funk. After the season we’ve had, don’t we deserve it???
Our good friend, big fan, and renowned Newfoundland artist Bud Vincent recently shared this picture on our Facebook page (check out a fun slideshow of his work here). And, given this scene he captured, he wondered if we could believe it’s March! Thankfully, this picture was NOT taken in the Wonderful World of Whiteway where, despite a tough winter, we actually haven’t been hit too badly with snow. Just another reason to come take advantage of our Winter Specials while you still can!

My oldest daughter, Adrienne, recently shared this picture on Facebook, and it’s worth repeating! She was enjoying an uncommon snowday for her part of the world (lucky thing lives in the South!), and spent some of her time off going through old family photos. And clearly inspired, this is the result! We hope however you’re spending this weekend, you get to spend some time with your loved ones. The memories really are all that matters.
Sometimes, having a seat is easier said than done. We hear that the weather has been relatively mild since we’ve been away. This picture was actually taken by Newfoundland photographer Bud Vincent a few years ago, but it’s still pretty representative of Newfoundland patios in winter! Jerry raised his family in Mount Pearl, so it has a special place in his heart. And since we’re only about an hour outside Mount Pearl, we know lots of our guests hail from this great city. This photo was actually taken over the Christmas break, although it’s been quite blustery and winter-y lately, too. It’s The Doctor’s House, snowed in and decked out, looking gorgeous as it does every season. I took this photo while on wedding tour with a prospective couple, and of course they fell in love with the place. Everyone does – including us!
Talk about peaceful – freshly fallen snow, a quiet winter morning, Shag Rock standing guard in the distance. We’re happy to share that our Whiteway cottages will be open all winter, so you, too, can come enjoy this wonderful view. Especially with our Sleep In Special, it’s even easier to luxuriate in this view, with a cup of coffee and no where to go in the morning!
