The island of Newfoundland is ruggedly beautiful, with scenes to take your breath away around every corner. Most visitors can’t believe just how vast our province is and many return again and again to truly explore the extent of its charm.
The Baccalieu Coastal Drive area of the Avalon Peninsula has much to offer for those looking to spend some time in the province’s capital as well as experiencing a taste of the laid back life around the bay.
Conveniently located just 1.5 hours from St. John’s Airport, and 50 minutes from the Argentia Ferry, our cottages provide an ideal home base. There’s lots of great things to see and do without having to travel very far, and we guarantee you’ll love coming home to your beautiful oasis by the sea.
Explore the Area
Our location on the Baccalieu Coastal Drive makes us the perfect starting point to explore the idyllic charms of outport Newfoundland.
In between Whiteway and Heart’s Delight you’ll find the charming village of Cavendish (great spot to walk the beach, fish for trout, take some selfies by the 3 sheds).
About 15 minutes south of the cottages, sample the local craft beer, catch some live Irish Newfoundland music, and shop for some souvenirs at Dildo Brewing Company & Museum in scenic Dildo.
Take a scenic drive to Canada’s first English Colony and tour Cupids Legacy Centre . Enjoy a walk through neighbouring Brigus and explore historic sites, quaint restaurants and shops galore.
Learn about our history and the by’s that build the boats at the Wooden Boat Museum in Winterton. Step back in time to 1866 at the Heart’s Content Cable Station, the site of the first successful transatlantic cable crossing and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While in Heart’s Content, be sure to check out the Northern Point Lighthouse for some great photo ops. It’s across from a great hiking trail with some beautiful scenery!
Keep heading north to the tip of the peninsula and visit the remote communities of Grates Cove, and Bay de Verde for a true outport experience.
Shop for original Newfoundland arts and crafts, try the tasting menu at the award winning Newfoundland Distillery in Clarke’s Beach, even pet some Newfoundland Ponies at the new Heritage Park just down the road in Hopeall.
Watch for Whales
Love nature? You’ve come to the right place. We’re minutes away from boat tours to get up close and personal to whales, eagles, ice bergs, seabirds, stunning scenery. In season, they’ll even take you cod fishing so you can catch your dinner and learn how to fillet.
Trinity Bay is a bird- and whale-watcher’s paradise – so you never know what you’re going to see while relaxing in nature’s paradise, on your own private deck.
Take a Swing
Practice your swing at Pitcher’s Pond, a nine-hole, challenging course and driving range surrounded by beautiful scenery, just minutes from our cottages right here in Whiteway.
Take a Hike
There’s so much to explore all around the cottages, so don’t forget your hiking shoes!
